Who We Are
People Over Profit UCLA is a coalition of patients, healthcare workers, trainees, families, and community organizations fighting to resist and destroy the current institutional agendas that seek only to extract value from the vulnerable communities that they purportedly serve.
We believe that healthcare is a human right, and are committed to a world where all receive the care they need.
We therefore seek to hold UCLA Health, HCLA, and all other academic, corporate, and public entities accountable for the decades-long advancement of carceral care frameworks imposed on Los Angeles communities that are facilitated by deep-rooted collusion to assign monetary value to a person’s health and to extract the most social and fiscal capital possible from the communities that receive care at our hospitals. We aim to abolish such frameworks and reinvest resources towards creation of policy, financing, spaces, and workforce that make LA healthcare accessible to all.
